The President's Corner

“Summertime when the livin’ is easy,” goes the song. So far the song is wrong in Chicago, which has had a very wet, cool June. Let’s hope the rest of the summer is better.

Once upon a time Aristotle said, “All men desire to know, e.g., they love to travel.” Indeed FICers love to travel and love to know. Some of us plan to go on the From Bucharest to Budapest cruise at the end of August. This Danube trip visits Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, and Hungary. Serbia and Croatia and other ethnic groups once formed Yugoslavia. Each country has its own currency like the days before the European Union and the euro. The director of the tour is going to talk about life under Communism. It should be interesting.

Irene has put together a trip to the Hawaiian Islands next February. I hope every member has received a copy of the itinerary. If not, please contact her, and she will send you a copy. It looks really good. I leave you with a quote from Art Buchwald. “These may not be the best of times or the worst of times, but they are our only times.”
