Greetings to all our FIC friends!
It is now the middle of August, and summer is starting to wrap up. The evenings in Buffalo are starting to feel a little chilly. Actually in the northeast we had a very late start to summer, as the month of July was cold and rainy. If you live in the northeast, you know what I mean.
We had the opportunity to be part of a fun, energetic FIC group who traveled by motor coach around Lake Michigan the last week in July. I believe the weather that week was the most beautiful weather we had all summer long. We never had a day of rain, but rather nice days filled with bright sunshine and pleasant temperatures. That certainly made our blueberry and peach picking experiences delightful! We also had a fantastic time on Mackinac Island – we went for a horse-drawn carriage ride around the island that ended at the Grand Hotel for a fantastic lunch. If you were on the trip, you will remember the fish boil dinner we enjoyed in Wisconsin and the quaint homes and businesses where goats graze on the roofs.
The Michigan countryside was just beautiful with lush green fields and water lapping up on the shores. There were so many other experiences we had, but what made our trip so memorable was the FIC members - what an entertaining, enthusiastic, and enjoyable bunch of folks! We all laughed, we played games, we sang, and just savored the pleasure of each other’s company. This is what truly makes this organization so special – the members. Many thanks to Mary Spradlin who organized this trip – she has a real knack for planning every detail. Prior to the trip, FICers enjoyed a tour of Chicago.
Next year the annual meeting will be in Louisville, so hopefully you’ll be able to attend. Also, there is talk about a Canadian railroad trip commencing in Toronto and traveling to Vancouver. What a great time that would be! Think about it and plan to join us – remember this is your organization, and we look forward to seeing you.
Best wishes until we meet again.
